Resumo: Proliferative Verrucous Leukoplakia (PVL) is a lesion known as a more aggressive form from the conventional leukoplakia. The unknown etiology, resemblance with other white lesions and potential development to a malignant disorder requires extensive studies about its particularities in order to prevent misdiagnosis. This work aims to evaluate PVL´s inflammatory patterns examining the casuistry diagnosed by Laboratório de Biotecnologia Aplicada Histologia - Universidade Federal Fluminense (LABA-UFF) using the new World Health Organization´s (WHO) classification, 2022. 22 histological slides from 7 patients diagnosed with PVL were selected. 5 cases were deleted for not having enough visual quality. It was possible to conclude that all analyzed cases (15) had inflammatory reactions. 73% presence of chronic infiltrate followed by 26,7% of mixed infiltrate. The most common cell type was lymphocyte (100%) followed by plasma cells (40%). The prevalent distribution profile was scare in about 40% of the cases. Mild dysplasias were seen in 40% of the cases and the lamina propria had inflammatory infiltrate in all cases (15). It is possible to conclude from this casuistry that the inflammatory infiltrate is present in LVP, justifying the investigation about its role in the pathogenesis in this lesion group.
