Área Temática: Oncologia

Resumo: Objective: To evaluate the incidence of oral mucositis in patients with laryngeal cancer undergoing
radiotherapy e submitted to prophylactic photobiomodulation. Study design: A cohort was carried out with patients
diagnosed with laryngeal cancer undergoing treatment with radiotherapy with or without
chemotherapy and submitted to photobiomodulation, data were collected between March
and December 2022 in the department of dentistry in an oncology service. Patients were seen
three times a week receiving photobiomodulation in the following parameters: wavelength of
660nm, 100mW, 1J/point, 10s/point, the application took place in the oral cavity with
predetermined points. Oral mucositis was classified using the NCI scale. Results: Thirty-one patients
were evaluated, 80.6% men and 19.4% women, the mean age was 65 years. Supraglottic
larynx was the most frequent location (39%) and squamous cell carcinoma corresponded to
all histological diagnoses. The average radiation dose was 64.56Grays with an average of 31
fractions. Oral mucositis occurred in 80.6% of the cases, most of which were grade II (61%).
Patients underwent an average of 14 sessions of photobiomodulation during radiotherapy
treatment. Radiotherapy for the treatment of laryngeal cancer was associated with the
development of oral mucositis, photobiomodulation seemed to allow lower degrees of this
complication.
