Área Temática: Estomatologia

Resumo: Laugier-Hunziker syndrome is a hereditary condition characterized by pigmentations in mucosa, nails and acral sites, without other systemic manifestations. This study aimed to report two cases seen in an oral medicine service from a public dental specialty center. Case 1: a 64-year-old woman presented multiple brown macules affecting buccal mucosa, palate, besides longitudinal melanonychia on nails. Case 2: a 65-year-old woman presented multiple brown macules affecting lips, palate and nail pigmentation. Clinical diagnosis was established based on clinical conditions and the absence of any other systemic signs or symptoms. Both patients were informed about the diagnosis of Laugier-Hunziker syndrome and the fact no specific treatment is needed. Patients returned to primary healthcare unit to proceed their dental treatment and remained in follow-up consultation in the specialized center. General dentist should be aware of this condition and its differential diagnosis, such as Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, that display high risk for malignant transformation.
