Resumo: The objective of this study was to discuss the importance of the Hospital Dental Team, inside a multiprofessional hospital care, in take a close look at the diagnosis of emergent disease that affect oral cavity. A 27-year-old male patient, attended the Emergency of a University Hospital with oral pain, odynophagia and dysphagia caused by multiple ulcers with an exudative background were observed, some coalescing with erythematous halo, located on the uvula and soft palate. The patient had fever, headache, muscle aches, malaise and lack of appetite. Clinical manifestations suggested the differential diagnosis of Monkey pox, mainly due to the recent outbreak of the disease. As the blood test was negative to Monkey pox, the secondary diagnosis was Herpangina, a Coxsackievirus infection that has similar clinical characteristics to Monkey pox. The dental management included antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy technique for oral pain relief and antimicrobial action throughout the disease cycle.
