Resumo: Dentigerous cysts are rare in the first decade of life. A 2-year-old male was referred for an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service with a complaint of a swelling on the face lasting 12 months. Medical and family history were reported hyperactivity disorder and continuous use of phenobarbital. Oral examination revealed a swelling was seen in the mandibular left posterior region obliterating the buccal sulcus. An orthopantomogram revealed a well circumscribed radiolucency developing molar tooth was noticed inside the lesion, measuring 5,0 cm. Clinical diagnosis was developmental odontogenic cysts. Enucleation was performed under general anesthesia. Histological analysis of the stained slides showed a cystic lumen lined by epithelium. Final diagnosis was compatible with dentigerous cysts. Patient has been followed-up for 21 months and is currently asymptomatic with no clinical evidence of recurrence. Their early diagnosis and timely treatment is extremely important to prevent further growth of the cyst and its complications.
