Título: Mucoepidermoid carcinoma in the alveolar ridge: delay in diagnosis and the importance of immunohistochemical

Nome do Apresentador: Larissa Tinô de Carvalho SILVA

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de caso clínico (PCC)

Área Temática: Patologia Oral

Resumo: A 60-year-old male patient came to the stomatologist complaining of a lump for 3 months. On intraoral examination it presented a single nodule, normochromic, irregular, smooth and papillary surface, fixed, sessile, infiltrative, size 3.5x2.5x1.0cm located in the lower alveolar ridge presenting painful symptoms. Panoramic radiography and cone-beam computed tomography were requested, which showed a hypodense, multilocular image with disruption of the cortical bone. An incisional biopsy was performed and the initial report was ductal dilatation. The samples were sent for histopathological slide review and different reports were obtained (unicystic ameloblastoma, mucoepidermoid carcinoma and conventional ameloblastoma), which delayed the beginning of the patient´s treatment. The immunohistochemical analysis was essential for the elucidation of the case and the association of aspects favors the diagnosis of a mucoepidermoid carcinoma. The patient was referred and awaiting treatment. This case demonstrates the importance of correct histopathological diagnosis for optimization and initiation of treatment.
