Título: EVALUATION OF SERUM VITAMIN D LEVELS IN PATIENTS WITH ORAL SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA

Nome do Apresentador: Andrea MATURANARA-RAMIREZ

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de pesquisa científica (PPC)

Área Temática: Estomatologia

Resumo: Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the serum levels of vitamin D between patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and control patients.
Study Design: Serum vitamin D levels were compared between 27 patients with OSCC and 49 patients without oral lesions. The levels of vitamin D3 (25 OH-Vit D) in serum were analyzed using an electrochemiluminescence method with a standardized technique with Cobas 601 equipment (ROCHE HITACHI). The levels were compared and classified as adequate (>35 ng/ml), mild deficiency (25-35 ng/ml), moderate deficiency (12.5-24.9 ng/mL) and severe deficiency (<12.5 ng/mL). The data were analyzed with STATA 16.0
Results: The average age in OSCC patients was 60.74 years and 60 years in the control group. Among the OSCC patients, 15 (55.56%) were men. 92.6% of OSCC had vitamin D deficiencies (mild, moderate or severe) years compared to 85.7% in the control group. The mean of serum vitamin D in OSCC patients was 20.61(SD: 7.69) ng/ml) and in the control group was 26.46(SD: 9.72) ng/ml). These differences were statistically significant (p < 0.015).
Conclusion: Hypovitaminosis D could be another factor influencing the risk of developing oral cancer and could therefore be a potential therapeutic target for cancer chemoprevention and chemotherapy.
