Resumo: Patients who undergo tumor resection may experience functional and aesthetic sequelae, such as oroantral communication, which is an opening between the oral cavity and the maxillary sinus. This pathological condition occasionally results in functional difficulties such as speech difficulties, swallowing, and chewing. Intraoral mutilations cause a negative psychological impact on the patient, which can lead to depression and social isolation due to affected self-esteem. This study aims to report a case of rehabilitation with a palatal obturator prosthesis performed in an oncological patient with intraoral mutilation after maxillectomy. The palatal obturator prosthesis, in addition to closing the oroantral communication and preventing the reflux of liquids and solids into the nasal cavity, improves aesthetics, speech, and the patients breathing. Rehabilitation with maxillofacial prosthesis is beneficial for patients who have experienced mutilation, as it can restore lost functions, repair the defect, and restore appearance, quality of life, social and family reintegration.
