Resumo: Photobiomodulation (PBM) has been shown to be effective in accelerating tissue healing processes. In the case report, an 56-year-old man, sought dental care after treatment of a carcinoma of the floor of the mouth, complaining of coronal destruction of all remaining dental elements. Clinical and radiographic examinations were carried out, in which hyposalivation, mouth opening restriction were found, in addition to 21 root remnants with caries activity. To adapt the oral environment, it was necessary to extract all the root remnants, but as the patient had received high doses of ionizing radiation in the head region, it was decided to use a prophylactic protocol with PBM (660nm) in the trans and postoperative period with objective of preventing osteoradionecrosis. The patient did not develop any osteoradionecrosis after the extractions and is waiting for mandibular rehabilitation surgery, showing that the use of a prophylactic protocol of PBM can prevent the development of this condition.
