Título: HIV DIAGNOSIS DUE TO KAPOSI´S SARCOMA LESION IN THE ORAL CAVITY: CASE REPORT

Resumo: Kaposi´s sarcoma (KS) is a tumor associated with human herpes virus 8 (KSHV/HHV8) infection and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS/HIV). The aim of this study is to report a case of an HIV-positive patient with Kaposi´s Sarcoma lesion in oral cavity. Male patient, 33 years old, reported significant weight loss and lesion in the anterior maxilla, exophytic, pedunculated, purplish, measuring 5cm, with progressive growth. The anatomopathological exam revealed papillomatous hyperplasia of squamous mucosa with persistent hemangiomatous and intense stromal hemorrhage and blood tests were positive for HIV. Patient was referred to antiretroviral therapy (ART) and excision of the lesion was performed. Immunohistochemical examination confirmed Kaposi´s sarcoma. Patient was referred to oncological treatment, and the possibility of metastasis was ruled out, and follow-up was chosen. At the moment, there is no recurrence, in semiannual follow-up. This case highlights the importance of dentist in the diagnosis of systemic diseases, improving oncological treatment.
