Resumo: Machado-Joseph disease (MJD) or spinocerebellar ataxia 3 (SCA3), belongs to the polyglutamine group (PolyQ). It is a late disease, with clinical manifestations varying between 35 and 40 years. characterized by the progressive loss of motor functions, most often culminating in the early death of patients. A male patient, 40 years old, with a previous diagnosis of Machado-Joseph disease. During the clinical examination, a periapical lesion was found in the right central incisor, caries in teeth 12, 15, 24, 34, 35, 44, 45, 46. In addition, the patient had dental calculus, gingival bleeding with stimulation and regular oral hygiene. Endodontic treatment was performed on tooth 11, restorations of decayed teeth and oral hygiene guidelines. The patient will be in proservation, as it is a neurodegenerative disease, the oral manifestations tend to progress, from the moment that his brushing becomes dependent and his motor functions become deficient.
