Resumo: A 5-year-old Caucasian boy was referred for evaluation with a chief complaint of absence of the lower teeth. During the history of the current illness, the patient´s father reported that the child had a previous dental appointment when the dentist requested a panoramic radiograph and suggested the hypothesis of cherubism. On extra-oral physical examination, he presented a hyperpigmented periocular skin, decreased eyebrow and eyelash density, hypoplastic midface, prominent lips, dry skin, thin and sparse hair. On intra-oral physical examination presented an oligodontia, conoid teeth and dry oral mucosa. The panoramic radiographic showed absence of dental germs of permanent teeth. The association of the clinical and radiographic favors the diagnosis of a Hypohidrotic Ectodermal Dysplasia. The patient was referred for genetic counseling and pediatric dentistry. This case reinforces the importance of the stomatologist to established the correct diagnosis.
