Título: AMELOBLASTIC FIBRO-ODONTOMA IN MAXILLA IN A 8-YEAR GIRL

Resumo: Ameloblastic fibro-odontoma is a rare, mixed odontogenic tumour. Asymptomatic swelling and delayed tooth eruption are characteristics of this lesion. Recently there has been a discussion whether it is part of the spectrum of developing odontoma. An 8-year-old girl underwent a biopsy of an incidental radiological finding of asymptomatic lesion in the posterior region of maxilla. Tomographic findings showed a hypodense area associated with 65 and 26 teeth, presence of incomplete septa, and discontinuity of the alveolar cortex. Hyperdense images, with density of calcified material inside the lesion, below the crowns were noted. The histopathologic examination revealed cords and follicles of odontogenic epithelium exhibiting peripheral ameloblast-like cells within primitive ectomesenchymal tissue. Hard tissue examination exhibited conglomerate mass of enamel and dentine arranged in a disorganized pattern and in close relationship to the ameloblastic epithelium. The lesion was enucleated, showing the same microscopic aspect. A long-term follow-up will be necessary.
