Resumo: An increase in the incidence of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) in women has been observed. A 50-year-old woman, not a smoker and not a drinker, was reffered to a University Hospital with a painful tongue lesion with six-month of evolution associated with cervical constriction and dysphonia. The patient had a history of lymph node enlargement around two years. Oroscopy revealed a hard nodule at the base of the tongue and a computed tomography showed an expansive solid infiltrative lesion with contrast uptake, measuring approximately 3 cm at the base of the tongue. The lesion was resected and histopathology showed infiltration into the underlying connective tissue, forming keratin pearls, islands, sheets and nests of hyperchromatic cells with atypical nuclei, pleomorphism and atypical mitosis. Cells resembling viral cytopathic effect were also identified. The diagnosis of SCC was established. The patient was referred an oncologic center for a proper treatment.
