Nome do Apresentador: Fabio Ramoa PIRES

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de pesquisa científica (PPC)

Área Temática: Patologia Oral

Resumo: Objective: to analyze the clinical and histological characteristics of reactive keratosis diagnosed in a single Oral Pathology laboratory. Study design: All cases diagnosed as reactive keratosis in the Oral Pathology laboratory, Rio de Janeiro State University, from 2005 to 2018 were selected. Information was retrieved from the laboratory forms and all HE-stained histological slides were reviewed. Results: final sample was composed by 152 cases and females represented 52% of the study group. Mean age was 54,8 years and 48% of patients were in their fifth to sixth decades of life. The lower gingiva/alveolar mucosa and border of tongue were the most affected sites in males, in contrast to lower and upper gingiva/alveolar mucosa in females (p=0,036). There were no differences on the presence of acanthosis, hyperparakeratosis and hyperorthokeratosis when comparing males and females. In general the presence of hyperparakeratosis was more common in free mucosal surfaces (p<0,0001) and hyperorthokeratosis was more common in attached mucosal surfaces (p<0,0001). Conclusion: there are differences on anatomical distribution of reactive keratosis when comparing gender of the patients and the pattern of keratinization is variable according with site of the lesions. Support: FAPERJ and CNPq, Brazil.
