Título: ULTRASOUND FINDINGS IN SALIVARY GLANDS AND ASSOCIATIONS IN PRIMARY SJOGREN´S SYNDROME AND SICCA NON-SJOGREN PATIENTS

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de pesquisa científica (PPC)

Área Temática: Imaginologia dentomaxilofacial

Resumo: Objective: To associate clinicopathological findings with ultrasonographic (US) features of major salivary glands in patients with primary Sjogren´s syndrome (pSS) and sicca non-Sjogren (snS).
Study Design: A pilot study was conducted on eight patients with pSS and ten with snS. US evaluation was performed using the OMERACT gray-scale and vascularity scoring system. Clinicopathological data were compared between the two groups.
Results: Gray-scale US findings showed significant differences between pSS and snS patients (p<0.05), with higher grades scoring in pSS group. Doppler mode revealed differences in vascularity between the groups (p<0.05). Moderate and severe US abnormalities were associated with a positive focus score and anti-SSA/Ro (p<0.05). Only the right parotid gland did not show differences between both groups (p>0.05). The other clinicopathological parameters evaluated (sex, hyposalivation, and anti-SSB/Lo) did not show association with US findings (p>0.05).
Conclusion: Higher grades of abnormalities and vascularization were found in pSS patients and positively associated with focus score and anti-SSA/Ro. Despite being preliminary, the data could favor US as a complementary diagnostic test for pSS diagnosis.
