Resumo: Hyposalivation (HS) and xerostomia (XT) are common oral complications in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients and vascular photobiomodulation can regulate many systems in these patients. Vascular photobiomodulation can be an efficient tool in oral medicine based on scientific evidence for modulating numerous chemical and enzymatic reactions. Female patient, 53-years-old, T2DM with HS and XT was submitted to a vascular photobiomodulation performed by continuous and direct transcutaneous application with a bracelet on the left radial artery using the red laser source, 660nm, Indium Gallium Aluminum Phosphide, 100mW, 180J, 30 minutes (Therapy EC, DMC, São Paulo, Brazil) weekly for 10 weeks. HS and XT were measured in days 1, 5 and 10 and the patient showed an increase in unstimulated and stimulated salivary flow and reduction of xerostomia and pain values after vascular photobiomodulation. Thus, it seems that vascular photobiomodulation can benefit T2DM patients with hyposalivation and xerostomia.
