Nome do Apresentador: Ana Waleska Pessoa BARROS

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de pesquisa científica (PPC)

Área Temática: Estomatologia

Resumo: Objective: Analyze the level of understanding of users of electronic cigarettes about the potential of this device to cause lesions in the oral cavity. Study Design: Cross-sectional and quantitative study with application of a questionnaire to measure the knowledge of EC users about the potential to cause oral lesions. We included individuals who had already consumed or consume EC, who agreed to take part in the research, of both genders and over 18 years of age. Those who refused to participate and those unable to answer were excluded. The data were systematized in spreadsheets, in which a descriptive analysis was developed and analytical statistics were performed using the IBM SPSS® program. Results: On a scale of 0-10, the mean level of knowledge about the consequences of using electronic cigarettes in the oral cavity was 5.4; 97% said they were aware of the presence of nicotine, 61.3% said they knew about the carcinogenic potential; 34.6% classified them as less harmful than conventional cigarettes; 63.3% believed that only nicotine is harmful in the device. Conclusion: Thus, it is important to spread knowledge about the harms of EC due to its potential to cause malignant lesions in the oral cavity.
