Título: THE USE OF HIGH-POWER LASER FOR SURGICAL RESECTION OF SMALL LESIONS IN ORAL PATHOLOGY: REPORT OF TWO CASES.

Resumo: Two female patients attended oral medicine service: one with 27 years old exhibiting normochromic 10mm width dome-shaped nodule on the floor of mouth with hypothesis of ranula, and another with 35 years old and an exophytic fingerlike 1mm width white lesion on right dorsal tongue, with hypothesis of squamous papilloma. The treatment for both was total resection using the high-power laser, configured in continuous mode (1500mW) infrared wavelength (808nm), using a 400µm optic fiber. The procedures were conducted successfully. Histological reports confirmed the clinical hypothesis. The histological analysis showed sufficient material and adequate margins for diagnostic, without significant differences from scalpel biopsies technique. After a 2-week follow-up did not observed sign of recurrence, and wound healing was compatible with the intervention. High power lasers are surgical instruments that allow resection of all sized lesions without significant histological changes, in an atraumatic and easy way, with the feature of instant hemostasis.
