Título: ATYPICAL MYOEPITHELIOMA OF THE HARD PALATE: A CASE REPORT

Resumo: A 25-year-old brown-skinned woman was referred to the Oral Medicine Clinic due to a circumscribed, sessile, fibrous, asymptomatic nodule at hard palate, measuring 2 cm, with a 5-mm superficial ulcer and mild erythema and telangiectasia. The diagnostic hypothesis was mucoepidermoid carcinoma, and incisional biopsy was performed, revealing proliferation of myoepithelial cells, mostly plasmacytoid, organized in solid aggregates within the connective tissue, diagnosed as atypical myoepithelioma. A palatal plate device was made to cover and protect the incised area and the patient underwent to the complete surgical excision, which healed completely with no signs of recurrence (2 years follow-up). Ulcers on nodular palatal lesions suggest malignant neoplasms and require incisional biopsy. Oral myoepithelioma is a rare benign salivary gland neoplasm. The malignant transformation is described in 50% of cases, demanding diagnosis by experienced professionals and regular follow-up of patients to ensure early diagnosis of recurrences.
