Resumo: To evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on oral cancer (OC) in a reference oncology institution of Southern Brazilian.This retrospective cohort study collected data of OC patients treated in a head and neck department between years 2017 and 2022. 160 new patients with OC were seen, treated, and followed up in our service, being 23,17,37,12,25 and 46 in each consecutive year of this period respectively. Although there are oscillations in the number of new cases per year in the service, an abrupt reduction of 67% in the year 2020 was observed compared to the previous year. No major changes in the epidemiological profile and risk factors for disease were detected. In comparisons between the pre-pandemic period vs years 2021-2022 higher proportion of tumors in stage T3-T4 (p=0.04) and mean diameter (p=0.051) were detected.COVID-19 lead to a sharp reduction in the number of new cases of OC at our institution. There was a normalization in the number of new cases after 2020.However, the OC was diagnosed at higher stages and with larger tumors, reflecting the possibility of offering curative treatment.
