Resumo: A 75-year-old female patient was referred to our service for evaluation of a tongue lesion with according to she had over 20 years of evolution. Her medical history was negative for smoking and alcoholism. Intraoral examination revealed an vegetating ulcer on the lateral edge of the tongue. With a clinical diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) two biopsies at different were performed. Histological examination revealed epithelium with hyperkeratosis and acanthosis with mild epithelial dysplasia. Then, the lesion was surgically removed under general anesthesia and the microscopical analysis showed invasive SCC. The patient is under clinical monitoring without recurrence in a 7-month follow-up.
