Título: ADENOID CYSTIC CARCINOMA OF THE PALATE WITH LATE DIAGNOSIS: A CASE REPORT OF A 30-YEAR-OLD PATIENT

Resumo: A 30-year-old woman presented a sizable swelling in the left side of the hard palate, with pressure sensation on the posterior part of the left eyeball and inside the left maxillary sinus, beside numbness on adjoining structures. The symptomatology evolved during the 18 months before the specialist´s appointment. The patient had already been submitted to an endodontic treatment on a left upper molar, as part of a therapeutic attempt. Image exams demonstrated a large soft tissue radiodensity area enveloping the left eye orbit and nasal fossae, extending to the medial and anterior left cranial fossa. An incisional biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of adenoid cystic carcinoma. The patient was submitted to radiotherapy (63.6 Gy), with the tumor being considered inoperable due to its size and the structures involved. The patient has been under follow-up for one year, and exposed that fear of the diagnosis prevented her from seeking specialized help earlier.
