Resumo: Three female patients were submitted to biopsy of nodules of the lip mucosa. Case #1 presented large perfectly round apparently empty spaces, surrounded by giant cells, and some of these cells containing asteroid bodies, with a nodular pattern and moderate lymphocytic infiltrate admixed with some macrophages and scarce neutrophils. Case #2 showed large basophilic amorphous "pools" with a diffuse pattern, many lymphocytes and macrophages. Giant cells were not seen and there was positivity for CD68 and alcian blue. Case #3 evidenced different sizes of cholesterol cleft-like material within giant cells and surrounded by chronic inflammation composed of lymphocytes and some macrophages. Scarse eosinophils were seen. The material was refractile in polarized light. The final diagnosis was inflammatory reaction to the cosmetic fillers polymethylmethacrylate (case #1), hyaluronic acid (case #2), and poly-L-latic acid (case #3). Support: CAPES, CNPq.
