Resumo: Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is a malignant glandular epithelial neoplasm uncommon in children. A 6-year-old female child, complained about a painless swelling on hard palate, present for 2 months. Patient had been previously seen by a physician and treated with antibiotics for a sore throat. As there was no improvement she was referred to a dentist. On physical examination a 2cm bluish-purple submucosal mass was observed in the posterior left side of the hard palate, firm on palpation. Cone beam computed tomography showed a hypodense erosive destructive lesion in the left maxilla, crossing the midline. An incisional biopsy was performed. Histopathological evaluation showed low-grade and invasive mucoepidermoid carcinoma. Patient was referred to the pediatric oncology service for treatment. Besides inflammatory lesions are more frequent in children, MEC may be considered in the differential diagnosis of asymptomatic lesions of palate.
