Resumo: This report describes a 78-year-old man with advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the lower lip who underwent surgery, reconstruction and radiotherapy, with support of the dental team in all the stages of treatment. The patient had residual root and caries, identified before oncological treatment, but due to microstomia, a conservative approach was chosen to preserve the teeth. During radiotherapy the patient attended photobiomodulation for oral mucositis and analgesia. After treatment, the patient attended to regular dental follow-ups for years and underwent several dental procedures. After four years, an alveolar ridge ulcer was identified and its biopsy was performed, showing no malignancy. This report emphasizes the importance of a complete and agile dental approach before cancer treatment to eliminate any oral conditions that could interfere with its continuity. It also highlights the role of dental surgeons in multidisciplinary teams during and after cancer treatment to improve the patient´s quality of life.
