Título: Odontogenic Keratocyst: A Literature Review On Clinical Aspects And Treatment Management

Nome do Apresentador: Deusdete Mayara de OLIVEIRA

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de Revisões narrativas ou sistemáticas (PRN)

Área Temática: Estomatologia

Resumo: Odontogenic keratocysts (OKCs) is a developmental cyst characterized by difficult diagnosis and biological behavior (intraosseous, benign or aggressive behavior).
Objective: Identify clinical characteristics of OKCs highlighting the role of the dentist in their treatment.
Study Design: This systematic review was carried out through the databases in BVS, Scielo and Pubmed studies published since 2019. The articles selected were through the descriptors "keratocyst" AND "Odontogenic cyst". After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria 20 articles were selected.
Results: OKCs are characterized by an aggressive behavior with a relatively high recurrence rate, particularly when OKCs are associated with syndromes. The diagnosis is then made by means of complementary exams, such as panoramic radiography and cone beam computed tomography. However, confirmation of the diagnostic hypothesis is made through histopathological examination.
Conclusion: In the literature, were seen different types of treatment consisting of techniques that preserve anatomical structures, such as enucleation and marsupialization, or more aggressive techniques, such as peripheral ostectomy, chemical curettage and cryotherapy. The dentist needs to be aware of the importance of including OKCs due to the special characteristics of the lesion in the differential diagnosis in order to carry out effective treatment.
