Título: FUNGAL MAXILLARY SINUSITIS: REPORT OF TWO CASES

Nome do Apresentador: Felipe Barreto LEMOS

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de caso clínico (PCC)

Área Temática: Patologia Oral

Resumo: This report presents two cases of adult patients with complaints of recurrent mild nasal obstruction refractory to medication. The 44-year-old female showed hyperdense areas in the right maxillary sinus on computed tomography (CT) scans. During the surgery, necrotic tissue in the maxillary sinus was identified that histologically revealed fungal rhinosinusitis associated with Aspergillus infection. The second case was a 60-year-old female with a swelling in the left alveolar ridge which was clinically diagnosed as an odontogenic keratocyst. The CT scans revealed a hyperdense finding suggestive of an antrolith which was removed surgically. The histologic diagnosis was compatible with chronic maxillary sinusitis associated with fungal ball Aspergillus-induced. These reports highlight the importance of the early diagnosis of recurrent maxillary sinusitis to prevent complications in the sino-orbital region.
