Título: THE RELEVANCE OF HISTOPATHOLOGICAL ANALYSIS FOR EARLY ORAL CANCER DIAGNOSIS IN LESIONS PRESENTING AS PERI-IMPLANTITIS

Resumo: The aim of this clinical case report is to alert about the importance of histopathological analysis in establishing an early diagnosis of oral cancer in peri-implant region. A 67-years-old female patient, attended the appointment for dental implant follow-up. Clinically, a peri-implant lesion was observed in the region of 47, without symptoms, suppuration or dental implant mobility. Panoramic radiography showed vertical and horizontal bone loss around of the implant 47 extending to tooth 48. The initial diagnosis was peri-implantitis. An incisional biopsy was then performed and sent for histopathological analysis. The histopathological diagnosis was oral squamous cell carcinoma. The patient was referred for treatment at a specialized oncological center. This case report reinforces the importance of histopathological examination of the peri-implant lesion for early accurate diagnosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma.
