Resumo: As the etymology of the name suggests, mucositis is an inflammation of mucous tissue, and this type of lesion is commonly found in the oral cavity and may be associated with various factors. In this report, a case of contact oral mucositis caused by toothpaste was presented in a 47-year-old female patient with phoderma who presented to our service with a complaint of "burning in the gums" for approximately 6 months. Intraoral examination revealed linear erythematous lesions in the upper and lower free marginal gums with a slight erosive aspect. Due to the clinical presentation of the lesion and the report of worsening after toothbrushing, it was decided to replace the toothpaste with one without sodium lauryl sulfate. After 7 days, there was a significant improvement in the condition, confirming the clinical diagnosis of contact oral mucositis caused by toothpaste.
