Resumo: Salivary duct cysts (SDC) are true cysts likely caused by obstruction of the salivary ducts and are rare in minor salivary glands. The aim here is to report a case of a 57-years-old female with a yellowish painless swelling on the right buccal mucosa, near to mental foramen area. After the physical examination and under the clinical hypothesis of a traumatic neuroma or fibrosed mucocele, an excisional biopsy was performed. Microscopically, a dilated salivary gland duct composed of 1-2 layers of cuboidal cells and rare mucous and ciliated cells were observed. Also, an intraluminal mucous plug was seen. The patient is now on about 4 months of follow-up and has shown no signs of recurrence. SDC and mucoceles can mimic salivary gland neoplasms and other traumatic lesions, making diagnosis difficult and subject to errors in treatment. SDC should be included in the differential diagnosis of swelling affecting the buccal mucosa.
