Resumo: Schwannoma is a uncommon benign neural neoplasm derived from Schwann cells. It's a slow-growing, encapsulated tumor, presenting as a firm painless lump. Intraorally, the tongue is the most common site. A 36-year-old male presented with a 2-month history of asymptomatic tongue swelling on the left side of the posterior lateral border of the tongue. Intraoral examination revealed a submucosal nodule, measuring approximately 30×30x30mm, normochromic and permeated by telangiectasias. The clinical differential diagnosis included a minor salivary gland tumor and a mesenchymal neoplasia. An excisional biopsy was performed and histopathological evaluation revealed a well-encapsulated neoplasm composed of spindle cells arranged in two cellular patterns, one with Verocay bodies and the other one with hypocellular areas of spindle cells. Immunohistochemically, the neoplastic cells were positive for S100 protein and SOX10 neural markers leading to the diagnosis of schwannoma. After 2 months of follow-up no recurrence was detected.
