Resumo: Female patient, 67 years old, with diabetes, showed a prolonged epileptic seizure, fever, and leukocytosis. A brain abscess caused by Eikenella corrodens was diagnosed and initially treated with ceftriaxone and metronidazole. A swelling was observed in the hard palate with purulent drainage next to the maxillary right canine. The CT scan of the facial bones revealed a bony sequestrum associated with the abscess. The patient underwent tooth extraction, removal of the necrotic bone fragment and abscess drainage, which tested positive for Enterococcus faecalis sensitive to ampicillin. After starting treatment with ampicillin, the patient exhibited improvement in clinical, laboratory and imaging parameters, and was discharged after 2 months. This case highlights the importance of Hospital Dentistry in the treatment of inpatients with systemic infections secondary to oral infections, playing a crucial role in clinical improvement through assertive diagnosis, detection of microbial pathogens and removal of infectious foci.
