Resumo: Ackerman´s verrucous carcinoma (VC) is a low-grade variant of squamous cell carcinoma. The treatment reported in the literature is surgical excision with wide margins. We propose minimally invasive therapeutics for verrucous proliferative leukoplakia (PVL), verrucous hyperplasia (HV), and VC as a first line of treatment based on methotrexate (MTX) chemotherapy.
We designed a descriptive and retrospective epidemiological study of patients with HV, LVP, and VC during the years 2015-2022 treated with MTX. Inclusion criteria were tumor size equal to or greater than 1.5 cm in diameter, single or multiple tumor lesions, and not receiving previous treatment.
The clinical response to treatment was total lesion reduction in 12 patients, at 10 more than 50%, at 3 less than 50%, and in 3 remained stable. No complex treatments were necessary for 82.14% of the study patients.
