Área Temática: Patologia Oral
Resumo: A 39-year-old male patient of mixed race presented to the community dental clinic complaining of a "sore on the tongue." During the anamnesis, he reported the onset of the symptomatic lesion approximately 4 months ago. Additionally, he mentioned a family member with a history of neoplasia, habitual consumption of alcohol approximately twice a week, and smoking an average of 10 cigarettes per day when he used to smoke. The intraoral clinical examination identified fixed submandibular/submentonian lymph node enlargement during palpation, with no pain reported. Based on the clinical information gathered, a diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) was suspected. The diagnosis was confirmed by incisional biopsy and histopathological examination, with subsequent referral for medical treatment. It is the responsibility of the dentist to diagnose and treat in conjunction with other specialties, as early diagnosis of this neoplasm is essential.
