Título: LATE DIAGNOSIS OF A HIGH-GRADE MUCOUS MELANOMA IN A VENEZUELAN REFUGEE: CASE REPORT

Resumo: A 72 years old Venezuelan male refugee, melanoderma, was referred due to the presence of a irregular dark shaded macule in the hard/soft palate junction. During the medical history investigation he was not able to specify the progression of the lesion. Also, the patient has been undergoing prostate cancer treatment for the past 4 years. Laboratory tests were requested, which were within the normal range and computed tomography showed radiolucent findings, with diffuse limits and a "moth-eaten" appearance at the level of the right maxillary sinus. An incisional biopsy was performed with the aid of a 4 mm disposable punch, obtaining two samples containing injured and healthy tissue for histopathological analysis. The histopathological report was compatible with Melanoma and further immunohistochemical study using Melan A and Ki-67, concluded the diagnosis of a high-grade mucous melanoma. The patient was referred to the regional oncology hospital and the outcome is presented.
