Resumo: The aim was to describe a case of a patient who was referred to a Hospital Dentistry Service for diagnosis and treatment of a lesion in the upper lip. A 51-year-old male complaining of a lesion with episodes of constant trauma and growth revealed no systemic diseases and a healthy condition. A previous history of surgical treatment in another service, without complete resolution, revealed a previous diagnosis of a mucous retention phenomenon. A clinical appearance of a purple submucosal nodule was observed, ~1.5 cm, and before the biopsy procedure, some serological tests were requested (TAP, APTT, and platelet count). Excisional biopsy was performed with divulsion and separation of the lesion and excision of the minor salivary glands around the lesion, which were enlarged. Histopathological analysis revealed to be an arteriovenous malformation. After the surgery, the patient followed with no further complaints and with a good recovery.
