Resumo: A 62 years old, male patient who sought care due to a lesion in the left border region of the tongue, perceived by the increase in volume and sporadic painful symptoms. The patient smoked for more than 10 years and noticed the lesion 3 months before. On physical examination, there was a swelling with raised edges, ulcerated, firm to palpation, bleeding to the touch, measuring 2 centimeters. After the incisional biopsy, oral squamous cell carcinoma was confirmed. The patient was referred to the Oncology service, which together with the Head and Neck Surgery specialty performed the resection of the lesion with a safety margin and ipsilateral neck dissection. The post-surgical histopathological examination confirmed the previous diagnosis, characterizing the neoplasm as moderately differentiated, with free margins and the absence of lymph node metastases. The patient underwent speech therapy, presenting speech, feeding, and phonation within the standards, and remains under medical follow-up.
