Título: CONSERVATIVE TREATMENT IN EXTENSIVE ODONTOGENIC KERATOCIYST: A CASE REPORT

Resumo: Odontogenic keratocysts (OK) are potentially aggressive cysts and have high recurrence rates. A 44-year-old man complained of jaw tenderness. Clinical examination revealed an increase in intra and extraoral volume in the posterior region of the right mandible. Panoramic radiography and computed tomography revealed a well-delimited osteolytic area, unilocular, with a radiopaque halo, located in the region of teeth 45 to 47, extending to the ascending branch, with involvement of the tooth 48 coronal portion, which were undergoing root resorption, areas of expansion and disruption of cortical bone. Treatment consisted of enucleation and curettage of the lesion, followed by chemical cauterization with 5-fluorouracil, an antimetabolite drug, with the aim of preventing recurrence. The anatomopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of OK. The patient has been followed up for 18 months without complaints or signs of recurrence. Complementary treatment are mandatory to reduce OK recurrences and 5-fluorouracil is an easy and effective option.
