Título: ORAL BENIGN NEOPLASMS: A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY IN A BRAZILIAN POPULATION

Nome do Apresentador: Anne Evelyn Oliveira MOURA

Categoria do Trabalho: Painel de pesquisa científica (PPC)

Área Temática: Patologia Oral

Resumo: Objective: To evaluate the clinicopathological characteristics of oral benign neoplasms (OBN) diagnosed in a Brazilian Oral Pathology service.
Study Design: This is a retrospective cross-sectional study. Between 2000 and 2021, all cases of OBN were studied. Histological slides of all cases were reviewed by an experienced oral pathologist. Data were collected from clinical records, analyzed, and distributed in relative and absolute frequencies.
Results: From 7554 oral lesions, 355 (4.7%) OBN were identified. Most of them were from epithelial origin (n=136; 38.3%), followed by lipomas (n= 67; 18.9%), salivary glandular tumors (n=61; 17.2%), vascular (n =44; 12.4%), neural (n =25; 7.0%), and bone origin (n = 12; 3.3%). Other rare neoplasms comprised 10 cases (2.9%). Females were more commonly affected (n= 213; 60%), with a mean age of 43 years. The tongue was the most frequently affected oral site (n= 95; 26.7%). In 233 (65.6%) cases, the clinical diagnosis was confirmed by histopathological examination, while in 120 (33.8%) cases it was divergent.
Conclusion: OBN were mostly of epithelial origin, with the tongue being the most affected site. Females were the most affected group. Understanding the clinicopathological characteristics of these lesions is important for their recognition in clinical practice, diagnosis, and treatment.
