Resumo: Objective:To perform a comparative analysis of a case series of bone cysts (BCs) of the jaws: simple bone cysts (SBCs) and aneurysmatic (ABCs). Study Design:The study comprised 69 cases, 52 SBCs and 17 ABCs. Results:Bone cysts accounted for 0.1% of oral pathologies. Both cyst types predominantly affected women, and they were most frequently located in the mandible. Sixty-one percent of SBCs and 41% of ABCs appeared in the first decades of life; 19% of SBCs and 65% of ABCs were associated with other bone pathologies and onset occurred after the second decade (71%).Eight percent of SBC and 12% of ABC cases had a history of trauma; 19% of SBCs were a radiographic finding; 8% of SBC biopsies contained blood, and diagnosis was based on follow-up. Conclusions:SBCs and ABCs are rare, and few case-series have been published. Aside from histopathological and clinical-radiographic studies, follow up is important to establish diagnosis.
