Resumo: Typical squamous cell carcinoma of the lip presents as a hardened, painless, crusted, exudative ulcer, usually small, less than 1 cm in diameter, slow-growing and histologically well differentiated. We report a series of 5 cases of lip SCC with atypical clinical or histological presentation. The series included 4 males and 1 female; the mean age was 54.6 years (ranging from 44 to 81 years). The first case presented as a deep necrotic ulcer and histologically poorly differentiated, the second case was a large pedunculated nodular lesion, the third, in addition to being located in the upper lip, was histologically diagnosed as a basaloid SCC, the fourth case presented as an ulcer with raised edges, measuring 4 cm in diameter and the fifth case presented as a crusted ulcer that extended to the skin of the chin. All patients were referred to the reference hospital where the treatment was carried out.
