Resumo: Cancer of the oral cavity and oropharynx is represented mainly by Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC). SCC is one of Brazil´s most frequent neoplastic diseases and is associated with alcoholism and tobacco consumption. The treatment can include the surgical resection of the tumor, which may lead to maxillary defects that must be rehabilitated using a palatal obturator prosthesis. This study reports the case of a 58-year-old female patient who had an oroantral communication of 2 cm in the soft palate as a result of SSC resection and was rehabilitated with a palatal obturator prosthesis. The dental impression was unsuccessful due to the rather posterior location of the communication, so digital scanning was used as it allowed better access to the area of interest. The use of the prosthesis has improved the patient´s quality of life by providing better conditions of phonation, breathing, swallowing, and self-esteem.
