Resumo: This study evaluated the frequency of micronuclei (MN) of oral epithelial cells of patients diagnosed with Fanconi Anemia (FA). The sample of convenience consisted of 46 patients aged between 4 and 42 years. Participants were divided into 3 groups: group 1 pre-HSCT without oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMD); group 2 post-HSCT without OPMD, and group 3 post-HSCT with OPMD. Cell smears were collected from the buccal mucosa and bilateral lingual border of all participants, in addition to samples of OPMD. Feulgen´s reaction was used to analyze the relative frequency (RF) of MN per thousand cells. The chi-square test was used to compare the RFMN and simple linear regression was used to verify the influence of clinical data on the RFMN. The RFMN ranged from 0.4 to 9 and the mean RF was 2.971 (SD=1.979). The results indicated that, although group 3 had a higher RFMN, there was no statistically significant difference. Higher RFMN was associated with older and non-white patients with more than 16 years post-HSCT. RFNM is a simple technique that can be helpful for OPMD screening in high risk patients and guide management decisions.
