Título: Large Oral Heterotopic Gastrointestinal Cyst in a child: a case report

Resumo: Oral Heterotopic Gastrointestinal Cyst (HGIC) is an uncommon congenital cyst that may arise from displacement of gastric mucosal cells into other regions of the gastrointestinal tract. A 6-month-old female presented with a painless swelling in the ventral tongue since birth, as reported by her mother. Intraoral examination revealed a pinkish, sessile, softened nodule. Fine needle aspiration showed a saliva-like fluid. Clinical diagnosis was mucocele and excisional biopsy was performed. Macroscopy exhibited irregular soft tissue fragments of 1.5cm in their largest diameter. Histopathological examination revealed a cystic cavity lined partially by stratified squamous epithelium, ciliated pseudostratified columnar epithelium, and simple cuboidal epithelium. A portion of the cyst was lined by gastric mucosa, consisting of columnar epithelium with gastric pits and goblet cells. In the fibrous cystic wall, muscle tissue was observed immediately below the gastric mucosa. Therefore, the final diagnosis was oral HGIC. Patient is undergoing follow-up and exhibits no recurrence.
