Título: CHRONIC SIALADENITIS OF MINOR SALIVARY GLAND ACCOMPANIED WITH SYSTEMIC DISORDERS: A DIAGNOSTIC CHALLENGE

Resumo: The aim was to report a case of a 62-year-old female patient who sought dental treatment. Past medical history revealed xenophthalmia, diabetes, glaucoma, and vision loss due to macular degeneration. Clinical examination showed cutaneous rash in the frontal and bilateral malar regions. Intraoral examination revealed hyposalivation and complaint of xerostomia. At the same time, she was being investigated for a pulmonary nodule. A salivary gland biopsy was proposed with the hypothesis of Sjögren´s Syndrome. Lung biopsy was performed. Revealing dense inflammatory infiltrate with a predominant lymphoid phenotype. Immunohistochemistry of the lung biopsy showed the absence of a neoplastic lesion and the salivary gland biopsy revealed chronic sialadenitis, with no lymphocyte foci per area to reach the final diagnosis of Sjögren´s Syndrome. Computed-tomography scans of the lung revealed an irregular nodule in the right lower lobe. The diagnosis was chronic non-specific sialadenitis and the patient remains under care.
