Resumo: The present report aims to describe oral characteristics of drug-induced gingival overgrowth (DIGO) in five children with microcephaly. Patients, mean age 7.3 months, both sexes, with severe microcephaly were referred to our service to evaluate their oral hygiene. They also have intellectual deficit, motor and visual impairment, sporadic seizures and epilepsy. They used antiepileptic drugs for more than four years. On intraoral examination, both arches were with gingival overgrowth that resulted in no eruption of permanent first molars on gingival margins. There were subgingival and supragingival dental plaque biofilms in deciduous molars. The dental treatment was scaling and root planing and topical application of 2% sodium fluoride. The therapy indicated for DIGO was conventional gingivectomy in a hospital unit. Patients are under clinical and radiographic follow up of dental development. It concludes that these patients need preventive and interceptive oral procedures.
