Título: Immunohistochemical expression of ki-67, p53, tenascin, and fibronectin in giant cell fibroma and traumatic fibroma

Resumo: Objective: To compare the immunoexpression of p53, ki-67, tenascin, and fibronectin in samples of giant cell fibroma (GCF) and traumatic fibroma (TF) of the oral mucosa.
Study Design: Ethical approval (15899419.1.0000.5149). In this cross-sectional study, tissue specimens diagnosed as GCF were retrieved from an oral pathology file. Samples were obtained of patients in the 5th and 6th decades of life, with lesions on the tongue measuring between 5 and 10mm. Eleven cases of GCF and eleven TFs matched by site and size were included and submitted to immunohistochemistry to p53, ki-67, tenascin, and fibronectin. Immunostaining was evaluated in superficial and deep lamina propria, using the ImageJ® software. Statistics were performed with Mann-Whitney tests and independent t-tests.
Results: p53 expression in superficial and deep fields was statistically higher in GCF than in TF (ps=0.045) (pd=0.025). Tenascin protein expression in deep fields also was statistically higher in GCF than in TF (p=0.000). No statistically significant difference was found for ki-67 and fibronectin.
Conclusions: The immunohistochemical profile of GCF differs from TF in regards to p53 and tenascin expression, but not for ki-67 and fibronectin. Support: CAPES financial code 001; FAPEMIG APQ-01361-22, and PRPq-UFMG 04/2022.
