Resumo: The traumatic bone cyst (TBC), categorized as a cystic lesion, lacks lining epithelium and presents as an empty cavity. Its etiology remains debated. TBCs are typically detected during routine exams due to their asymptomatic nature. Diagnosis confirmation and treatment for TBC involve bone biopsy, with curettage being sufficient for bone repair.
A 13-year-old male patient of caucasian ethnicity, presented a radiolucent circumscribed lesion identified during a routine examination via panoramic radiograph. Endodontic assessment ruled out an endodontic origin for the lesion, leading a referral to the stomatology clinic. The lesion was extended from tooth 34 to the distal aspect of tooth 36, reaching the mandibular base.
Diagnostic considerations included inflammatory cyst, aneurysmal bone cyst or traumatic bone cyst. Bone biopsy revealed a completely empty cavity, preceded by a puncture yielding blood "foamy" content, confirming the diagnosis of TBC.
Radiographic follow-up after six months post-surgery demonstrated complete resolution of the lesion.
