Resumo: A 6-year-old boy, leukoderma, diagnosed at birth with recessive epidermolysis bullosa. He was referred to the dental service of the referral hospital for dental treatment. Physical examination revealed synechiae and contractures on the hands, blisters and crusts on the upper and lower limbs. Intraoral examination revealed ulcerated and erosive lesions on the lips, blisters, and ulcerations on the jugal mucosa and tongue border. Petechiae on the palate, ankyloglossia, a depapillated tongue, microstomia and a mixed dentition with active carious lesions, gingival erythema, and biofilm accumulation were also observed. The oral environment was carefully adjusted with prophylaxis sessions, restorations, and oral hygiene instructions, to maintain mucosal integrity. Because of the higher probability of soft tissue lesions in these patients, functional tooth preservation and oral hygiene reduce unwanted damage, promote mastication and nutrition, and thus improve quality of life.
